mr-sali asked: The only two that mattered were the Best and Supporting Actress. Sadly, the one that was really good lost to the more comedic, "You ate my shit." The sad thing is, The Iron Lady wasn't even that good... It's not one of those iconic roles people will remember Meryl for. It was just her dressed up older, putting on a accent and doing a touch of a pond interpretation of a...

My final word on the locs appropriation debate (I...
For those just tuning in, some people on this site claim that anybody who is not locking their hair for a religious or cultural reason are appropriating from those who do (others just say white people). Meaning what we do with our hair is offensive, bigoted and racist.
I’ve been doing some soul-searching to figure out why this gotten under my skin. I mean, who the hell are they anyways?...

The basic difference is intention and method. Locs are done intentionally and created in a specific manner and like previously explained, require upkeep.
Matted hair is just what happens to your hair when you stop giving a fuck.
They’re completely different.

Anonymous asked: What is your take on black people who have dreads but have no knowledge or "who don’t understand the origins and deep spirituality" of Rastafarianism? So are you saying that if a non black sees a black person with dreads it is okay to assume that they are Rastafarian?

I completely agree, I side on the idea of it being appropriation, but at the end of the day, you have to pick and choose your battles. We can agree minorities, as a whole, have bigger issues to tackle than how white people want to style their hair.
Thank you! Honestly, I’ve been having a hard time with race rhetoric...

About this whole white people with dreads...
I hate arguing on the internet. Mainly because it’s time consuming but mostly because I never feel like I accomplished anything at the end of it.
But this whole white people wearing dreadlocks thing has been coming up on my dashboard for months so I felt compelled to say something. I understand the aversion to it because we’ve all seen the people who wear Bob Marley T-shirts, smoke...
smokingmegaphone asked: according to history, not me. you're the one who can't dig up evidence on white people dreading as a sacred custom. like I said, find me some evidence. and I can't be specific on the hair plaiting because very little is known of it, but I've seen it described as a sort of matted braiding, used by the ancient Celts.

OK, normally I stay away from arguing with the tumblr social justice gang, but there are so many things wrong with this post.
First of all, dreadlocks originated with the Rastafarian movement AND THEN moved to India?? That’s just plain false, backwards and a bit…

I can’t even take you seriously since you refute me with a whole lot of nonsense, and not with...
smokingmegaphone asked: just so you know there is absolutely no proof of dreads in western cultures. it is suspected or hypothesized, but most likely what occurred was a different kind of plaiting of the hair. if you want to try and find me proof from a valid source, go ahead. because you won't.

I agree in terms of “are they from Africa or India or…” BUT I do think it’s quite clear that white folks have no right to them whatsoever & locs have NEVER been a central part of their cultures/spiritual practices, so it’s always appropriation.
